I am interested in sharing an updated story of my experience with Universal Accounting. Below is my brief testimonial.
My name is Petra Kirkland and I'm the owner of Kirkland Accounting Service. I decided to start my own business after spending 30 years in the corporate world. I wanted control of my future and felt the only way to do this was start my own business. I read about the Universal Accounting seminar and decided to check it out. It seemed like the answer to my prayers. I knew I had the "smarts" to do the work, I just needed the guidance and training to do it. Universal Accounting was the perfect solution. The training gave me the ability to handle customer accounts with confidence and knowledge. The material is easy to follow and the staff is there to support you with any academic problems you encounter. I especially benefited from the marketing program. Though I had 30 years experience in the corporate world, I had no idea how to market my own business and win customers trust. I now am on my way to having a successful practice. I have several clients and my business is growing quickly. I could not have done it without the support of the coaches at Universal Accounting.
Sincerely,
Petra Kirkland

The article below points out three things that tax preparers should be aware of:
1)	Those holding a PTIN, whether having completed the Registered Tax Return Preparer (RTRP) Exam or not, will be required to have 15-hours of CPE before qualifying to renew their PTIN for next year. CPA’s and attorneys are exempted.
2)	Anyone using courses toward the CPE requirement must give the provider their PTIN number at some point so that they can notify the IRS.
3)	The CPE requirement only pertains to those that already have their PTIN. So, a person that already has a PTIN could take a course as a preparation for the exam and count it toward the 15 hours. I understand that if a student doesn’t have a PTIN, they are now required to first take the exam to qualify. So in that instance, the coursework completed before a person takes the exam does not count toward CPE.
The article contains a link to the list of approved providers including Universal Accounting Center.

I paper filed over 15 ptin renewals with a separate ck for each in early November 2011, it's now February 7, 2012 ............still have not been processed!! I know they received them as they sent two back for changes, but haven't processed any. They must have hired the US Post Office employees to process. Our Gov't at (non)work.

Congratulations on your new daughter!Your portable office looks great. I alternate sitting at my desk with using a portable computer desk/tray placed on top of my regular desk so that I can work standing. I'm pretty short, so just elevating my laptop on top of the portable computer desk/tray puts it up to a good level to work standing. It really feels better both physically and mentally to have that option, that's for certain.

You are so welcome. Goals within a practice can change over time and it is good to confirm the direction it is heading. Also there are individual strengths that reveal themselves with working with others. Perhaps the goals for the practice are the same but individual efforts and responsibilities change.

Thank you for the tips. I especially liked the one where it's recommended to recheck whether you are on the same page with your business partner. Great way to avoid misunderstandings!
